Back In Time
The Wall: Last 10
Celebrating 20 years in (and out perhaps, but still around, more or less), two of the NTSC elder statesmen joined forces to release Old Skool, a multipart demo that sticks to the name with regards to design - in many ways leaving the viewer feeling as if they had indeed just witnessed a demo from 1986!
Style released the final version of the first demo
for the DTV (v1), originally shown and released at SWRAP 2005 on
September 17. The demo is a showcase of the cblast technique that
was invented by Six/Style, and offers a glimpse of some of
the new effects possible with the DTV hardware.
Style released a new Turbo Macro Pro package, containing v1.1 of all mods; a new mod for the DTV v2 (PAL DTV or PTV for short) was added using 512k of the PTV's extra 2 megs of hi memory. As well, some bugs were fixed and minor features added. The tool and online manual are available at the new Turbo Assembler Homepage, an archive and history of other modifications of the famous Turbo Assembler.
Well of course this book has been out for quite some time, but fortunately RaD Man/ACiD is now providing North American distribution with the best prices possible in the western hemisphere, $35.99 plus s/h within the USA and $45.99 plus s/h for CA and MX - PayPal accepted!
log0 is a new PC group operating in North America, and they released their first demo at the Function 2005 party in Hungary. Although The Unnamed Demo placed 12th out of 12 entries, it is still great news to see a new group form and get active. Members are .zukko, coder from Mexico; Rubicante, composer from USA; and Ghostless, 3d/graphician from USA.
Trailer Park Demos has made the final version of their 2nd placer Pilgrimage'05 entry available. FreeFall is an interesting thematic demo that stays true to it's name - watch and see for yourselves!
Style releases CBMClock, a small tool first shown at SWRAP2005 that brings your favorite brand logo into full effect on your PC. Coded by Wrong Way.
Another demo by Wanderer, maintaining the activity with his 3rd demo in four months. The screenshot doesn't do this justice; albeit small, the demo has a nice classic scroller effect that should be seen in action...
SWRAP 2005 held in Chicago for the 8th time, brought together the usual elite/retro hardware hackers and a slightly larger amount of oldskool sceners than last year, with Style, FTA, RPG, AIC, and PSW all represented. Big hit of the after party and unofficial winner of the 4k-plus-whatever competition was Dancing Cat, the mechanical c64 driven feline automaton conducted by Jeri, Schema/AIC, and Pegasus/RPG. Must See DTV/Style was also shown at the after party, a demo exploiting the NTSC DTV joystick. Update: Cat videos below are supplied by dracosilv!Cat Video 1 | Cat Video 2 | SWRAP Expo homepage | Sep 18, 2005
Northern Dragons captured 1st place in the demo competition at the third annual Pilgrimage held in Salt Lake City Utah this weekend. Their winning entry is titled Eurotrash and can be downloaded below. The other demo releases, including the party version of 2nd place winner Freefall by Trailer Park Demos, can be found in the release list on the left!
